Can I use crypto to contribute to my IRA instead of USD?

Contribution of cryptocurrency directly into a retirement account is considered a prohibited transaction by the IRS. Cryptocurrency is titled as your “personal property”, and prior to contribution towards an IRA, must be converted into fiat currency. All contributions made to your IRA must be properly categorized, and there is currently no tax or rule-compliant method to transfer cryptocurrency straight into your IRA.
